Learning Experience Designer

Servant Leadership Project
Overview
-
Audience: new managers transitioning from individual contributor roles at the fictitious company ElevateTech.
-
Responsibilities: Action mapping, storyboarding, visual & graphic design, eLearning development & instructional design
-
Tools: Articulate Storyline 360, Canva, ChatGPT, Google Suite, YouTube
The Problem
I wanted to practice/experiment with AI in the creation process of the eLearning project, so I used a custom ChatGPT bot, created by Devlin Peck and “fed” with instructional design process information, to create my problem and storyboard. I gave the bot information about my expertise, interests, background, and goals.
Next, I refined its answers until it gave me a problem I liked and a storyboard I could work with. I then asked it to create a company that could use this eLearning solution. Granted, this process was done out-of-order, but since my overarching goal was to practice with ChatGPT and Articulate Storyline 360 this process is acceptable.

ElevateTech Solutions is a fast-growing software company specializing in AI-driven business solutions. With a workforce of engineers, product managers, and customer success teams, the company emphasizes innovation, collaboration, and ethical leadership. The problem is that ElevateTech has promoted several people from individual contributor roles, but has done no training with them in how to manage their teams.
The Solution
The culture of ElevateTech relies heavily on servant leadership principles. The company leaders decided to provide training to new managers in order to embed servant leadership into the company and assist their new leaders in managing their teams. Since adult learning theory has shown that learning experiences that rely on problem-solving and application are impactful for adult learners, I determined that a story-based experience with “real-life” scenarios would be an engaging solution.
The Process
I asked ChatGPT to create a storyboard that I used as the starting point for the Articulate Storyline 360 project. I liked most of the story board, but I did make some small tweaks. I then created my graphics using Canva and Storyline 360. Since this is a spec project, I found a video explaining the basic tenets of servant leadership on YouTube. For a client-requested project, I would have created or outsourced a video that was more specific to the company culture. I followed this video with high-stakes experiences scenarios in the low-risk environment of the eLearning project.
What I Learned
Creating a process where the learner gets to choose their mentor is what I enjoy most about this project – well, that and the topic. I have been teaching servant-leadership principles to college students for years, and it was fun to change the format (eLearning) and the audience (corporate professionals). This was only my second Articulate Storyline 360 project, so I was learning as I went. I was also experimenting with incorporating AI into the creation process. Using a custom bot on ChatGPT helped me refine my ideas and structure the lesson, but it was just a starting point. I refined its ideas and ignored some suggestions until I got a storyboard I liked.
